Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program
The ACFM participates in the “Women, Infants, and Children” (WIC) Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program. The WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) was enacted July 2, 1992, as Public Law 102-314. The Healthy Meals for Healthy Americans Act of 1994 (Public Law 103-448), which was signed November 2, 1994, amended Public Law 102-314. The purposes of the FMNP are to provide fresh, nutritious, unprepared foods (such as fruits and vegetables) from farmers’ markets to women, infants, and children who are nutritionally at risk, and to expand the awareness and use of farmers’ markets, as well as increase sales at such markets. This is a very successful program both for the customers and growers.
